Week 16: Set Up (or Claim) Your Google Business Profile

Updated: Jul 22

Digital Success Weekly gives you one simple step to move your online presence forward, in 30 minutes or less.

This week is about your Google Business Profile. It's one of the most powerful free tools available to small businesses. And a lot of people don't even know they have one waiting for them.

What This Focus Is Really About

Think of your Google Business Profile as your digital storefront on Google.

When someone searches for your business name, or for a service you offer in your area, your profile can show up right there in the search results. It shows your business name, location, hours, phone number, website, and reviews. All in one place. All for free.

Why This Matters

1. It helps people find you in local searches

When someone types "website designer near me" or "small business coach in [your town]," Google uses Business Profiles to show local results. Without one, you're invisible in those searches.

2. It builds instant trust

A complete Google Business Profile makes your business look established and professional. It shows people you're real, active, and easy to reach.

3. It works even if you don't have a physical location

You don't need a storefront or office to have a Google Business Profile. Service-based businesses and online businesses can set up a profile and list a service area instead of an address.

4. It's completely free

Google Business Profile costs nothing to set up or maintain. It's one of the highest-value things you can do for your online visibility.

What to Include in Your Profile

  • Your business name

  • Your location or service area

  • Your phone number

  • Your website URL

  • Your business hours

  • A short description of what you do

  • Photos of your business, your team, or your work

A Few Tips to Keep in Mind

  • Search your business name on Google first to see if a profile already exists

  • If one exists but you haven't claimed it, you can claim it for free

  • Fill out every section as completely as possible

  • Add at least one photo to make your profile stand out

Your Action Step

Go to business.google.com and search for your business. Ask yourself:

  • "Does my business already have a Google profile?"

  • "Is it claimed and up to date?"

  • "Is all the information accurate?"

If you don't have one yet, create it this week. If you have one but haven't touched it in a while, take 30 minutes to review and update it.

Showing up on Google starts with this one simple step.

Once your profile is set up, head to Week 17 where we walk through filling in your hours, location, and key details.
