Digital Success Weekly gives you one simple step to move your online presence forward, in 30 minutes or less.
This week is about building a welcome sequence. That's a short series of automated emails that go out to every new subscriber over their first few days or weeks with you. Once it's set up, it runs on its own.
What This Focus Is Really About
Think of a welcome sequence as a guided tour for new subscribers.
When someone joins your list, they're curious about you but they don't know you yet. A welcome sequence introduces yourself, shares your story, and gently guides them toward the next step, all automatically, without you having to do anything once it's set up.
Why This Matters
1. New subscribers need to be nurtured, not just welcomed
One welcome email is great. But a short series builds the relationship much more effectively. By the end of three emails, a subscriber feels like they actually know you.
2. It runs automatically
You write it once and it works for every new subscriber forever. It's one of the best return-on-effort activities in email marketing.
3. It moves people toward taking action
A well-written welcome sequence builds trust, shares value, and naturally introduces what you offer. By the third email, many subscribers are ready to take a next step.
4. Three emails is a manageable starting point
You don't need a ten-email sequence to get results. Three short, well-written emails is enough to make a real impression.
A Simple Three-Email Structure
Email 1 — Welcome and deliver Send immediately after sign-up. Deliver your freebie, say thank you, and give a warm introduction to who you are.
Email 2 — Your story Send two to three days after Email 1. Share a bit more about yourself, why you do what you do, and who you help. Make it personal and relatable.
Email 3 — Your offer and next step Send four to five days after Email 2. Share what you offer, how you can help, and invite them to take a next step (book a call, join your membership, explore your services).
A Few Tips to Keep in Mind
Keep each email short. Three to five paragraphs is plenty.
Write each email as if you're talking to one person
Space the emails out so they don't feel like a flood
Most email platforms make setting up a sequence (or automation) straightforward
Your Action Step
Write three short emails this week and set them up as an automated sequence in your email platform. Ask yourself:
"Does Email 1 deliver my freebie and feel warm and welcoming?"
"Does Email 2 help subscribers feel like they know me a little better?"
"Does Email 3 naturally lead people toward a next step without feeling pushy?"
Set it up, test it, and then let it run.
