Digital Success Weekly is a way to move your online presence forward one step at a time. It focuses on an action you can take each week that you can complete in 30 minutes or less.
Focus #2 is all about your website's navigation ... the menu at the top of your website. Don’t make your visitors hunt for information. Help them quickly find what they need.
What This Focus Is Really About
Think of your navigation like a map. Your visitor lands on your site and they’re trying to figure out where to go next. Your navigation helps them move around with confidence.
Why This Matters
1. People want things to be easy
No one wants to click around trying to figure things out. If your navigation is simple and clear, people can move through your site without having to search for what they are looking for.
2. Too many options create confusion
It’s easy to think that more pages and links will be more helpful BUT when your menu has too many items, people don’t know where to start. Try to keep your navigation menu focused and easy to understand.
3. Clear navigation builds trust
If you site is easy to use, people will stay longer and are more likely to take the next step. A clear navigation menu gives the impression that your business is organized and professional ... even if you’re just getting started.
4. Your navigation should guide your visitor's journey
Your navigation isn’t just a list of pages. It’s a guide to help people find key information and lead them to your most important pages.
What Strong Navigation Looks Like
A simple, effective navigation usually includes key areas such as: Home, About, Products or Services, and Contact.
A Few Tips to Keep in Mind
Use clear, familiar words (no guessing)
Keep your menu short (5–7 items)
Make it easy for visitors to find your contact information or take the next step
Action Step: Take a look at your navigation.
Ask yourself: “Could someone find what they need in just one or two clicks?” &
“Would a first-time visitor understand these menu labels right away?” If not, take action and make your navigation clear and easy for visitors to find the information they need.
You don’t need a complicated navigation. You need one that makes sense.
Try to make it as easy as possible for your visitors to move through your site without having to hunt for the information they need to do business with you.
