Week 21: Check That Your Website Shows Up in Google

Updated: Jul 22

Digital Success Weekly gives you one simple step to move your online presence forward, in 30 minutes or less.

This week is about a quick but important check. Do you actually know if your website shows up on Google? A lot of small business owners assume it does. But it's worth taking a few minutes to confirm.

What This Focus Is Really About

Think of this check as making sure your store is on the map.

You've built your website. You've added content. But none of that matters if Google can't find it. This week you're going to take five minutes and verify that your site is showing up in search results.

Why This Matters

1. Your website might not be indexed yet

When you first launch a website, it can take a few weeks for Google to find and index it. If your site is new, it might simply not be in Google's system yet.

2. Your settings might be blocking Google

Some website builders, including WIX, have a setting that hides your site from search engines. It's often turned on by default during the building phase. If you forgot to turn it off, Google can't see your site at all.

3. You can't improve what you can't measure

Knowing whether your site shows up in Google is the starting point for everything else in this theme. It's a five-minute check that gives you important information.

4. It's easy to fix if something is wrong

Most indexing issues have simple solutions. Checking is the first step to finding and fixing any problems.

How to Check

Option 1 — Search your business name Type your business name into Google. Does your website show up in the results?

Option 2 — Use the site: search Type "site:yourwebsite.com" into Google (replace "yourwebsite.com" with your actual URL). If results appear, Google has indexed your site. If nothing shows up, your site may not be indexed yet.

Option 3 — Check your Wix settings In Wix, go to Settings, then SEO, and make sure "Let search engines index your site" is turned on.

A Few Tips to Keep in Mind

  • If your site isn't indexed yet, be patient. It can take a few weeks after launch.

  • You can speed things up by submitting your sitemap to Google Search Console (Week 22)

  • If your WIX settings were blocking Google, fix that first and give it a few weeks to update

Your Action Step

Take five minutes right now and search for your website on Google. Ask yourself:

  • "Does my website show up when I search my business name?"

  • "Have I checked my Wix settings to make sure Google can see my site?"

  • "Is there anything blocking my site from appearing in search results?"

This is one of those quick checks that can save a lot of confusion down the road.
