You've built your foundation. Now it's time to make sure people can actually find it.
Welcome to Phase 2 of the Digital Success Roadmap: Get Visible. Step 4 is all about SEO, which stands for Search Engine Optimization.
Don't worry. That term sounds more complicated than it is.

What Does SEO Actually Mean?
SEO simply means helping search engines like Google understand what your business does, so they can show your website to the right people.
Think of it like this: when someone searches "bakery near me" or "bookkeeper for small business," Google is trying to match that search with the best, most relevant website. SEO is how you help Google understand that your website is a good match.
You do not need to be a tech expert to do this. You just need to follow a few simple basics.
Why This Step Matters
You could have the most beautiful, helpful website in the world. But if no one can find it, it cannot help your business grow.
SEO is what helps your ideal customers discover you, often without you having to do anything extra once it's set up. It works quietly in the background, which fits perfectly with building a business that doesn't demand your constant attention.
What This Looks Like in Real Life
Here is a simple way to start with SEO basics.
1. Think like your customer. What words would someone type into Google if they were looking for what you offer? Those are your keywords.
2. Use those words naturally on your website. Include them in your page titles, headings, and the text on your pages. Write the way you'd naturally talk, not stuffed with repeated words.
3. Fill out your page titles and descriptions. Each page on your website should have a clear title and a short description that explains what it's about. This is often called your "meta title" and "meta description."
4. Set up your Google Business Profile. If you serve local customers, this helps you show up in local searches and on Google Maps.
5. Be patient. SEO is a slow and steady process, not an overnight fix. Small, consistent improvements add up over time.
