Many rural towns and municipalities need a professional website but face real challenges such as limited budgets, limited staff time, and websites that are costly to build and difficult to maintain.

The Municipal Website Design Project was created to provide a practical, affordable solution that allows municipalities to build, customize, and manage their own website with full ownership and control.

 

A well-maintained municipal website supports clear communication, digital accessibility, and long-term community growth by helping share up-to-date information for residents, businesses, visitors, and investors.

What You'll Receive

Your municipality will receive a professional website foundation that includes:

  • A municipal-specific website template built on WIX

  • Core pages structured for common municipal needs

  • A clear, accessible layout designed for ease of use

  • Branding and customization aligned with your municipality’s logo, colours, and requirements

  • Full ownership of your website

Your municipality owns the website. No third party controls or retains ownership.

1:1 Facilitator Support

This project includes up to five (5) private 60-minute Zoom sessions with a dedicated project facilitator.

 

These sessions provide hands-on support for:

  • Setting up your municipal website correctly

  • Customizing the template to meet your community’s needs

  • Organizing content and pages effectively

  • Troubleshooting issues as they arise

  • Supporting a confident and successful website launch

Support is step-by-step and focused on helping your municipality manage the website independently over time.

Your Role in the Project

To ensure a smooth setup and successful outcome, your municipality will need:

A dedicated point person
At least one person should act as the main contact and work alongside the facilitator throughout the project. This ensures knowledge stays within the municipality and supports long-term sustainability.

​

A domain name
If your municipality already owns a domain, support is provided to help connect it.
If you do not have a domain, one can be purchased through WIX.

​

A branded municipal email
A professional, municipal-branded email address (for example: admin@yourtown.ca) is recommended instead of a personal email address.

Investment

Investment: $1,497 + GST

 

This investment includes the municipal website template and dedicated 1:1 facilitator support to guide your municipality through setup, customization, and launch.

WIX Hosting & Estimated Costs

A WIX hosting plan is required to publish your website. Support is provided to help choose the most appropriate plan when your site is close to completion.

Estimated website costs over two years may include:

  • Year 1: approximately $282

  • Year 2: approximately $282

  • Domain renewal (Year 2): approximately $20

​

Estimated total over two years: approximately $584


Actual pricing may vary depending on plan selection and current WIX promotions.

Security, Hosting & Reliability

​WIX provides secure hosting and infrastructure designed to support reliability, backups, and data protection. Additional security and compliance information is available through WIX’s Trust Center if needed.
